| 2 days | $1,150 | $1,200 |
| 3 days | $1,650 | $1,700 |
| 7 days | $2,300 | $2,350 |

What changes the price of a mini excavator rental
- Machine size. Rental yards price by weight class. A 1 to 2 ton micro excavator costs less than our 3.5 ton class, and a 5 to 8 ton machine costs more and needs a bigger truck to deliver. Most residential jobs fit the 3 to 4 ton class. See what size excavator do I need.
- How long you keep it. Our week is priced at 4 times the daily rate, so from day 4 to day 7 the price does not go up.
- Delivery. Some yards charge by the mile each way. Ours is $150 flat in Palm Beach and Broward and $200 in Miami Dade, pickup included.
- Damage waiver. Usually a percentage of the rental at chain yards. Ours is $50 a day.
- Attachments. Extra buckets, augers and breakers often cost extra. Ask before you book.
- Fuel and hours. Most yards cap daily engine hours and charge for refueling. Ours: 10 hours a day, and fuel only if it comes back with less than it left with.
Questions to ask any rental yard
- What is the total with delivery, pickup, damage waiver and fees?
- Is delivery a flat fee or by the mile?
- How many engine hours a day are included?
- How big is the deposit, and is it a charge or a hold?
- What year is the machine?
Our answers: $650 for a day in Palm Beach or Broward, flat delivery, 10 hours a day, an $800 hold.
Is it cheaper to hire someone?
For a single small trench, maybe. An excavation contractor brings the machine and the operator, and often has a 1/2 day minimum. If you or your crew can run the machine and the job takes a full day or more, renting usually costs less. Before you dig, Florida law requires a free Sunshine 811 locate ticket 2 full business days ahead. See our 811 guide.
