Mini Excavator vs Skid Steer: Which Do You Need?

Both machines show up on South Florida job sites every day, but they do different jobs. A mini excavator digs. A skid steer carries, pushes, and grades. Picking the wrong one costs you a day.

Choose a mini excavator when you are digging

Trenches, footings, foundations, pool excavation, utility and irrigation lines. Our Bobcat E35R2 digs about 10 feet deep with a reduced tail swing that keeps it close to walls in tight lots. If the main task is putting a hole in the ground, this is the machine.

Choose a skid steer or track loader when you are moving material

Grading, loading, hauling dirt and gravel, demolition, and hardscape prep. The wheeled Kubota SSV75 is faster on firm ground. On soft, sandy, or finished surfaces, the Bobcat T650 track loader floats instead of digging in. Both rent at the same daily rate.
